Dear Colleagues,
We are deeply sorry for the tragic terror incident that took place at the entrance of Istanbul Ataturk Airport. We hope that such incidents will not happen at all, not only in Istanbul but all over the world.
After serious considerations and discussions with IUPAC, we have decided to proceed the congress as scheduled. This way, we will not let the crazy people to ruin our lives and activities. The preparations of Macro2016 is, in fact, running smoothly and there will be over 900 participants in Istanbul.
We certainly believe that additional precautions are necessary to run the congress in a safe and successful manner. The followings are some security measurements to be taken at Istanbul Ataturk Airport, Conference Venue and Shuttle Service Departure Points.
A welcome desk of the conference supported by two experienced staff will be located at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport to assist for the transportation to the hotels or the venue. GSM phone numbers of the staff will be provided just before these dates.
- There will be a separate shuttle service in every hour on July 16th and 17th for Macro2016 participants from the airport to congress center, city center and central located hotels.
- Additional security practices have already been requested from the Istanbul Mayor which will be provided by the Istanbul Police Department. Additional precautions will be taken at the congress shuttle departure points.
- The congress venue has normally 2 security check points. The first security check is approximately 200 meters away from the venue for cars and pedestrians, the second security is to control the entrance to the Venue through an X-Ray check.
