Turkey 2023: growing interest in learning Mandarin

Since the turn of the century, many Turks have enrolled in Chinese language programs in Istanbul, Turkey's financial and cultural capital, and Ankara, the country's capital.

It has over 300 students in two cities, with many more online. Students can learn with online Mandarin tutors, for example, at https://livexp.com/skills/chinese from any city in Turkey.

"Demand is increasing because the value of the Chinese language in Türkiye has skyrocketed," Mustafa Karsli, vice president of the organization, told Xinhua. "We don't even need to advertise for a while now."

Yusa Nisar, 19, is in his final year of high school and has attended classes since December last year. He intends to study in China and eventually reside there since he sees China as an increasingly appealing trading center.

Yuan Ren, a Chinese literature graduate, has taught at the center for many years. Public leaders, tour guides, and university students have attended her seminars.

Qin Jian, online tutor, wishes to contribute to the improvement of Turkish-Chinese ties. "I teach my Turkish friends about Chinese culture and knowledge." "I enjoy it," he remarked.

Cultural interchange is an essential component of language teaching at the center. "We do not separate the Mandarin language from the Chinese culture," Karsli explained. "We include cultural topics in instruction and organize other cultural activities."

Examples of such events include festival celebrations, film programs, exhibits, internet contests, talent shows relating to Chinese culture, singing competitions, and even Kung Fu and Jianzi performances.

"Chinese is not as difficult as you think," tutor Yuan Ren assures her.
